Green Driving - Concept and Adaptation

Have you ever heard about Green driving? It is a matter of amazement that apart from the driving, which we do in our daily life, there is another form of driving which exists and it is called ‘Green Driving’. Green driving is the same as your normal driving, but its more eco friendly. A drive which causes less or no harm to nature and releases less CO2 is always a ‘Green Drive’.

Green Driving is nothing but to drive with environment friendly keeping a pace with the nature. When we burn fuel it emits many gases and those gases are not suitable for our atmosphere, but at the same time we need to drive regularly in our life to move places to places, so what should be the best way to keep the balance between our driving and nature?

Round the globe there are millions of vehicles and so are the ways of driving, we can never teach any vehicle owner about how to drive, it’s not possible, but what’s possible is that we should make ourselves aware of Green Driving. Here’s what we can do.

We can divide the initiatives into Personal and Community level.

Personal initiatives

Personal initiatives are those which are possible for us and we can start practicing them right away. Below are the listed efforts we can try out.

Choosing a better fuel technology– we all know that the gasoline storage for the world is melting down and in few decades we will have no gasoline at all. We can imagine that time right now and can choose to drive a vehicle which is available and coming with alternative fuel technology. In the current scenario we are having options for many fuel technologies like Electric, Bio-diesel and E10.

Improve or Change Driving Habits– A million vehicles, a million ways of driving. We never know when we are wrong with our driving habits, until we face any situation. Try to adopt the safer and comfortable driving method which suits you and your vehicle both. Follow the driving manual and special instructions coming with your vehicle, like applying brakes, acceleration, turns etc.

Good care for our Car– It’s quite obvious that when we buy a pet, we need to give him the due care. The same factor works with vehicles also; if we buy them we are responsible for their proper maintenance. A well maintained vehicle can save you money and as well as can provide you safety because of the good maintenance. Keep your car, truck or any vehicle you have fully maintained, this will also reduce the cost of depreciation of your vehicle.

Planned Traveling– A properly planned traveling is always a money saver and it also gives us more output then that of unplanned or random traveling. Planning enables the traveler to get clear about places and budget, distance and everything which is required for a perfect drive. A random or unplanned traveling doesn’t have any clear goal and thus we just end up burning fuel but nothing. So always try to plan whenever you go out.

Following Traffic Rules– Following traffic rules is same as traveling with minimum risks on the road. Traffic rules are meant to put the vehicle organized and at a safer distance on the road. Following traffic rules on the road will never put you in travel, as they are made for safety. There are cases where following traffic rules have saved lives and vice versa too.

Using Cruise Control– Cruise control is something similar to autopilot in Airplanes. Cruise control enables you to drive at a steady speed by controlling the speed automatically. A driver can set the speed for cruise control and the rest is done by the system. Cruise control helps in giving a comfortable drive experience to driver and it also saves fuel because the vehicles run on steady speed.

Community Based Initiatives are those one which are not possible for an individual but can be done a group of people, governments and auto industry experts.

Make more fuel efficient cars – Car manufacturing companies can help a lot in terms of nature care by promoting the alternative fuel technology in vehicles. They can research and develop technologies those not only can reduce the harm to the nature but also can solve t he problem of less fuel availability. This practice has already been adapted by many Car manufacturers and as a result we can see many hybrid car models these days.

Promote Electric Cars – Electricity is best form of energy for anything which runs on it, because it never emits anything after being used, it’s the most eco friendly form of energy till now. Car Manufacturers should promote the Cars based on Electric energy. Some companies have already started making electric cars, but electric powered cars don’t give the required performance as it comes from gasoline based cars, that’s why the electric powered cars are still in the development phase and being tested for high performance as same as gasoline powered cars.

Good and Maintained Roads – cars run on roads and road are one of the major factors in terms of mileage and maintenance of cars. Well built roads add many factors to a journey like Safety, low fuel consumption, less tyre recession. All over the world roads are the major concern for the governments, since well built roads also help in reduce the loss to nature.

Carpooling – Carpooling is a concept where a particular resource gets used by many users and thus reducing the consumption of fuel. A group of people or a community can initiate and can start carpooling. Carpooling helps reducing traffic also as only one car runs on the road instead of four people. For example four people move from their location in their respective car to the same place increasing the traffic on the road, where if they share one car to reach their respective destination which is common for all, then carpooling solves their purpose as well as it reduces traffic on the road.

GIS Based Routing – This is the newest concept and still in its diapers. In this technology cars are equipped with systems which can give them information about traffic at a certain place of the city and they can decide to move when the traffic is low, in short drivers will know the traffic situation before they start driving. This system is known as GIS - Geographical Information System. This system is quite new and still being tested for its implementation. If technology experts get success in establishing this system this system will help reduce CO2 emission drastically because if a car drivers decide to run according to the traffic situation, then there will be no emission until they start driving.
